Nintendo opens eShop for Wii-U on console launch day

Shop, chat and browse to your hearts content

If you were planning on running out today and buying a Wii-U then you’ll be pleased to hear that Nintendo are opening the eShop via an online update from today.

The update will allow you to access online functionality including Nintendo eShop, Miiverse, Wii U Chat, applications and a dedicated Internet Browser.

The eShop will act as a portal allowing you to download Wii-U games such as New Super Mario Bros. U, as well as giving you access to additional applications such as NETFLIX, YouTube and UPLAY

Wii U Premium Pack owners will also be able to earn loyalty points for online purchases which can then be redeemed for future purchases.

The update will also allow existing Wii owners to transfer their saved games, virtual console games and Mii characters to their new consoles.

Nintendo also points out that some titles on the eShop will be available at a reduced price at launch, in celebration of the release of the new console.
