About This Site

Hi, I’m Matt and welcome to this site.

I started Tech Made Easy in 2009 as a way to help friends and family with tech related problems without having to visit them in person or talk them through problems on the phone.

The idea was that if I could record the information somewhere on how to fix a problem then I could refer them to that source and leave them to it. I also found it a great aid-memoire when I needed to remember how I’d set up my own solutions at home.

Over the years the site gained a number of followers and I had the opportunity to work with many equipment manufacturers on reviews and how-to guides. The site actually began to earn me money and it occured that I could actually do this for a living.

But, in late 2013 I was offered an incredible professional opportunity which took up a lot more of my time and limited how much I could add to this site. New content was uploaded far less frequently and I wasn’t able to work as effectively with product manufacturers anymore.

Then, in 2016, I decided to take a break from blogging. Life had moved on somewhat and I found I no longer had the desire or the time to commit to creating content. Foolishly, I neglected to backup the site before the domain lease expired, and thus 6 years of hints, tips, reviews and news were lost forever.

This was a massive shame as by this point several hundred other websites were all linking to articles and how-to guides that I’d written and the site was growing in popularity even with a heavily reduced amount of new content.

In the following months some unscrupulous fellow leased the website address and attempted to mimic a lot of what I’d produced in an effort to gain ad revenue from people clicking on historic links from other websites. When I found out about this I was less than impressed and began writing again on a new site in an attempt to build my online presence back up.

Then, in late 2019, I noticed that this web address had changed hands, and I approached the new owner and asked if they would sell it back to me.

Thankfully they said yes and I was able to reclaim the web address and the brand that I had built from the ground up and which meant so much to me.

From 2020 I began producing new content again under the Tech Made Easy banner. Because of other commitments I don’t upload content as frequently as I’d like to, but new how-to guides, reviews and musings still find their way here from time to time.

I’m committed to continueing to grow this brand back to the level it once was. Given the shift in how we consume content I’m not sure that’s even possible, but at the very least I hope to be able to assist people with their IT related problems in the same way I did over a decade ago.

I hope you enjoy reading through the content on this site as much as I enjoyed writing it.
