Designing a Home Network Which Mitigates the Risks Posed by the use of Internet of Things Devices

That’s a catchy title isn’t it? It’s actually the title of my university final project which I completed over this past Summer.

Now that it’s been marked and moderated, and the results have been released, I’m able to share it with you.

Now, I’m not saying this is the ONLY way to setup and secure a home network, far from it. If you skip through to the conclusions towards the end you’ll see that I highlight several shortcomings with this approach. That said, this should at least give you an idea of the types of risks associated with these types of devices, and the sorts of things you can do to reduce the risk.

And if you were wondering, I ended up with a first-class honours degree in computing and IT, with a specialism in communications and networking.
