I’m leaving, on a jet plane
So, the last few weeks I’ve been sitting on some information and haven’t been able to share it until I got confirmation from my employer.
A couple of months ago I applied to be sent overseas on a two year posting to Nigeria, and yesterday I received the official letter that my application had been accepted. In January 2014 I’ll be heading off with my partner for my dream job.
Unfortunately, this is going to mean some changes to the type and amount of content appearing on Tech Made Easy.
The first problem is that our entire lives will be packed into a shipping container at the end of this year and we might not see it again for six months. So I’m only going to have my smartphone and tablet with which to produce content. What’s more, when all of our stuff does turn up, our Internet connection will only really be good enough to produce written content, so there won’t be any YouTube videos for quite some time.
Lastly, I’m willing to bet that most suppliers won’t be as willing to ship product samples out to me, so the reviews on the site will be restricted to whatever products I buy for us during our time out there.
The upside is that once we’re settled I’ll be focussing more on how-to guides and news, which is something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time.
This isn’t the death of the site, I’ll still be writing things as and when I can, and the sites existing revenue will ensure that it can stay live, even if all ads were removed tomorrow. We’re really excited about this opportunity, even if it does mean that I won’t always be able to write as much as I’d like to.
All that remains is to thank everyone (readers, PR contacts, friends and colleagues) for their continued support of the site. Being able to write for you all has been a dream come true for me, and one that I hope can fit in alongside our new adventure in Nigeria.
