HOW TO TAKE A SCREENSHOT ON ANDROID

Easy on Ice Cream Sandwich, harder on older versions

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, especially if you’re trying to describe something on your smartphone or tablet to someone else.  Luckily, taking a screenshot on your Android device is pretty simple, for most devices anyway.

For devices running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher

Taking a screenshot on these devices is really easy.  All you need to do is hold down the power and volume-down buttons at the same time.

Get it right and you’ll hear a shutter sound and see an animation of the screen being saved.  You’ll find your screenshots in the Gallery app.

For devices running Android 2.3 or lower

Unfortunately there’s no facility for screenshots built in to Android 2.3 or below, but you may find that your specific device comes with an app provided by the manufacturer.  Some device, like certain Samsung models, will take a screenshot if you hold the power and home buttons at the same time, but this is device specific so it’s best to search around on Google to see if there’s an option for your handset.

Alternatively, you could invest in No Root Screenshot which adds screenshot capabilities to Android devices that don’t have it natively built in,
