Old Database Recovery

If you’re a regular reader you may have noticed that a whole bunch of “old” content has appeared on the site recently.

Tech Made Easy in its original form began back in 2010, but in 2016 I decided I didn’t want to be involved with it anymore and allowed the website and the brand to cease to exist.

Foolishly I never took a back up of any of the data, and subsequently when I decided last year to give it another go I had to start from scratch.

Last night I was looking over the site on the Internet Archive site, WaybackMachine and discovered I could view a significant amount of the old TME content as they’d frequently indexed it between 2010 and 2016.

A lot of the older content is no longer relevant but I’ve migrated it anyway so that it won’t be lost, it does of course form an important part of this sites (and my own) history.

It’s been really interesting to read through some of the old content, not least to appreciate how much effort it had taken in the first place to create it all.

I’m amazed at how much of the content I wrote predicted future events. I described the fall of Google+, the Facebook data harvesting scandal, the decline of optical media and many other topics. It’s almost as if I know what I’m talking about!

If you’re bored, give some of the old content a read. A lot of the pictures are missing as these were hosted externally and have therefore not been logged by the Internet Archive, but many of the articles are as they were written back in the early 2010’s.

Also check out the Internet Archive at web.archive.org Those guys do a fantastic job of making sure websites are archived and it’s proved very useful to me in this case.
