Nokia announces affordable dual-SIM phones

Two new handsets available during 2nd quarter.

Nokia has announced plans to release two budget handsets designed to allow those on a shoe string budget access to the Internet while on the go.

The Nokia 110 and 112 handsets will both offer users access to Facebook and Twitter via built in apps, as well as access to thousands of other applications in the Nokia app store.

Both handsets will feature Nokia’s proprietary web browser and service, which compresses website information by up to 90% before sending it to the users handset.  This results in significant mobile data savings, though we have heard some grumbles for users of this service of dropped connections and missing information from websites.

Both devices will be able to access Twitter and Facebook from the home screens, while the 112 also features eBuddy messaging out of the box, allowing you to stay connected to a multitude of IM networks while on the go.

Mary T. McDowell, executive vice president, Mobile Phones, had the following to say of the new handsets:

“Today’s mobile phone users want a quick internet experience that allows them to discover great content and share it with their friends – but without being held back by high data costs… … The new Nokia 110 and Nokia 112 devices combine browsing, social media, apps, world-class entertainment and long battery life to create a great package for young, urban consumers who want to do it all.”

Both handsets feature a 1.8″ LCD screen, cameras and expandable memory (up to 32GB via MicroSD cards).

Both have also had their technologies optimized to allow for nearly 10 hours talk time and almost a month on standby, which is good going we think.

The dual SIM functionality included in both handsets means that there’s no need to power off and remove the battery to change provider; you can switch which SIM is active from within the phones OS, allowing you to minimize costs quickly and easily.

If dual SIM is not your thing, then both handsets will be available as single SIM versions; the 111 and 113.

Nokia is recommending that the 110 be put on sale at around €35, while the 112 should hit shelves at around €38.

That’s pretty cheap.  If you’re looking for a phone to take down the pub with you then give these two handsets a thought.
