DATAWIND TO RELEASE UK’S CHEAPEST ANDROID TABLET

Budget device priced at £29.99

India based tech manufacturer DATAWIND have today unveiled plans to release a range of tablets to the UK market, including a budget device priced at £29.99, officially making it the cheapest tablet device in the UK.

Of course, for that kind of price we’re not talking about the latest and greatest when it comes to specifications, but the 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM are on a par with the specs of the original iPad from 2010.  When you consider that the iPad originally retailed for over £400, it’s a pretty impressive feat.

That being said, the specs are no where near the offerings of other budget devices such as Tesco’s Hudl, but it could be an ideal device for frequent travellers or for the kids.

DATAWIND CEO, Suneet Singh Tuli had the following to say on the launch:

“The development of the tablet stemmed from the realisation that lack of internet adoption in many parts of the world was primarily because of lack of affordability.  Our aim is to bridge the gap by offering cost-effective, high-specification devices and internet-access that offer excellent value to all.”

“With recent figures showing that in the UK, 29% of the poorest households have no computer and 36% no internet, we’re working to bring affordable technology to the many hundreds of thousands of households excluded from benefiting from the digital revolution.”

Personally, I’d love to get my hands on the £30 model, just to see how useful it can be with the rather anaemic specifications listed.
